Sum based on a string in another cell.

Using sumif formula we can calculate the total for a range of cell, if a particular string/text present in another cell.

In the above referenced example, we have data of sales made by several persons. We have calculated the sales made by a particular person John. In the first field we have first and last name of the sales men and second field we have units sold by the individuals respectively.

We have used =SUMIF(A3:A12,"*john*",B3:B12) formula to find the sales made by John. This formula executes in two ways. 1st it will search for the name “John” and in the 2nd part it will calculate the units sold by the respective person.
